Saddle bags / Soft panniers

Hi,

I'm going on a 5-6 day trip next week and need some advice on luggage options.

I'm riding a '96 AT. I can't afford ally panniers at this point (may end up making some, but that's another thread), so would like some suggestions for soft panniers. Ideally I'd like them to be a large capacity, to take the majority of my gear, though I'm fine with the idea of having to carry more luggage on top anyway.

They are going to be well used as I'm planning on doing more trips in the future, so I'm happy with spending up to £150.

Any suggestions?

Dad had these for his Varadero. He did 6 days touring Scoooooootland with them and had no issues at all with them.
I think he sold them to someone on here???????????????

I'm not really in a position to recommend a particular set as I have never even ridden a bike let alone used/purchased/fitted soft luggage. Dad bought the RDM soft luggage set for £64.99 from Infinity when they had a branch in Cardiff. He used them on a 4day trip to Belgium and a week long bimble to Scotland.

I use these and though they are £30 over your planned budget you get what you pay for.
I don't have frames on my twin and just put some Halfords rubber grid under them. They can take more kit than a set of big ally panniers and can also be strapped down if you only have a small amount of gear. And they are pritty indistructable.

I think soft panniers are under-rated. (In the event of an accident they might survive or at least can be sewn up!) The main thing I dislike is the need to add storm covers in wet weather, which are awkward, messy and can flap in the airflow. I must say that if the Andy Strapz bags really are rainproof they wouldn't need for storm covers. Problem solved.
