    november -march ='kin cold!

july & august = 'kin 'ot!

outside those dates it's probably quite pleasant...

slightly more seriously though, exactly when are you planning on going, cos with a continental climate the temperature range across the year can be huge compared to a maritime climate like the uk.

I would think Mid August would be the best time of year.

I was in the Alps in September a couple of years ago and there was no problem with hotels being closed.

Make sure you enjoy the ride to and from the Alps. There are loads of great roads in Southern Germany; it would be a shame to miss them by riding only Autobahns. I expect your friends will advise!

It just so happens that I have a copy of "Touren Spezial 2010 - Alpen" on my desk.
Its all Auf Kraut but loads of recommended tours there are also tons of hotels some specific for bikers
Next time I'm at Louis I'll have a look if their PC software AlpenTouren is also in English, that has all the recommended tours and hotel info you need

    Re: Alps 2010

I am planning a bit of an Alps trip myself next year as a back up tour if my Original plan falls through.

I am heading in Switzerland to see my brother, then down into the Italiam Alps and across in Slovenia, back in Austria and across towards Colmar, then back up the Mosel Valley through Belgium for the Ferry home

I usually just use Mapsource to find some old knarly twisty looking routes then follow that as best as possible, I never get lost as I dont know where I am most of the time.

Planning on staying in the Kriglavs or whatever its called National PArk area in SLovenia for a few nights depending on time and riding some gravel tracks there are loads to chose from.

We are going to the Alps too this summer last 2 weeks in July a friend has offered us the use of their Apartment in Arcs 1950 just up from Bourg Saint Maurice.

Was looking at getting there quickly then takin a couple of days to get back up through Germany etc

So I will be watching this thread with anticipation
