    Thank you for your concern.

Due to a technical issue at the XRV pErV central, a test card is being displayed. Engineers are working on the issue and Normal Service will be resumed shortly.

As a licence paying XRV'er, please be rest assured that your "viewing pleasure" is always my aim, so please stay tuned!

I have done several searches & had some quotes which come in at well over £100 return It's starting to get tedious now.

I'm looking for reasonably priced options, avoiding the usual Dover/South East routes, has anyone had good experiences/reasonable prices with other routes?

Dending on where you want to leave from try Plymouth to Roscoff. LeMans isn't a very long ride from Roscoff

Direct Ferries are giving 10% discount on LD Lines bookings at the moment.

Plymouth to Roscoff is worth a look, if you catch the overnight ferry (10pm - 7am) it's a lot cheaper!

    Thanks for all the replies.

I phoned LD lines again & got sorted, a lot more expensive at £88 than last year's £45 but had to book a sleeper chair this year.

Re: Ferry options, South coast to France

It may be sad, but I have created a spreadsheet that includes tolls and fuel costs (both sides of the channel) and I use it every time I cross.

Almost always, LD Lines works out cheapest (Norwich - Normandy) overall and the Channel Tunnel vies with Brittany Ferries as the most expensive.

We tend to end up crossing Portsmouth - Le Havre and sleep on the deck (for free - they don't insist on you paying for a sleeper chair) and then return Boulogne - Dover on the 5.30pm crossing. The Le Havre - Portsmouth crossing is very dull during the daytime/evening and it doesn't get into Portsmouth until about 10pm. A 230 mile ride starting then is just a pain. It works out about £30 more that way, but is more pleasant.

Plymouth to Roscoff on Brittany Ferries any good for you? Don't know what it would cost but looks like a direct route with consequent fuel savings.
