With time rapidly running out on our Cameroon visa, and our Gabon visa having already started before Xmas, we were in a bit of a state. Add to that, the 3 day delivery of clutch parts from South Africa ended up taking 7 days - even more panic! We managed to get a week's extension on our Cameroon visa, then jumped to the capital Yaounde on the 11th to apply for new Gabon visas. Xander went back to Limbe to wait, while Tam stayed in Yaounde. Finally, late on the 13th, the bike was back together again. Xander raced from Limbe to Yaounde on the 14th, and we raced out of Cameroon on the 15th - the day of expiry for our extension! So apologies for not being in touch and letting you know what has been going on and that we are back on the road.
And what a road it was!!!! We spent 3 days crossing Gabon, and another 4 days to reach Brazzaville in Congo, where we arrived today. Gabon was stunning and it was so sad we couldn't spend time looking around, and that the volunteer project we had hoped to work on here had fallen through. We travelled on some rough dirt roads to reach the border, racing the rains which were our biggest concern. Then we battled the hardest road we have done so far, and the hardest one we expect for the whole trip. I've attached a few photos to show you - these were taken at points where I had to walk or help push the bike out of the sand, which were not as frequent as I expected them to be. Amazingly, we only fell over three times in 250km of torture that took two solid days to ride through - incredibly deep sand, then sand with big road construction trucks, then freshly graded sand, plus a bit of mud. We were lucky the rains held off - it poured down last night!!
PS. Oh, by the way, did I mention we crossed the Equator?!?!?!!!
