    spanish pyrenees campsite info needed

    hi and hola`

Just finished me route for late may break and need some campsite advice for the Spanish side, namely around Jaca and if possible El pont de Suert for a night halt must be cheap and clean with water etc but nowt flash.

Rather spend me money on the local food than hotels prices, also any recomendations around the San sebastian area for one night, quite part town fine or outside and also Santander area.

would wild camp but dont think its safe in the "touristy spots"

    cheers all

NOT A RECCOMENDATION as such but I usually just turn up at my vague destination for the day and find somewhere when I get there. Its much more exciting that way and frequently leads to random events/meetings/opportunities. Just leave plenty time in the afternoon to find somewhere and be flexible. Ask in tourist office, shops and bars or just stop someone in the street. I have stayed on plush 5* holiday parks for free, through to be being told by the mayor of a french village to camp on the village green/playground and to camping in someone's garden. Worst case is wild camp in a field or just off the road, but I have never had to resort to that.

Good luck and have a great trip. I was briefly in the Pyrennees in September last year and wished I had more time to explore the back roads and get up the high passes. My main tip - stay on the spanish side, everything is loads cheaper.

There are two campsites in Jaca - one of them is pants!
The campsite to the east of the town is the best one (I think it is called St Vincent), the site nearest the town centre is full of static caravans and is pretty awful. There are a number of sites in Torla - which is not far from Jaca - all of them are pretty good.
There is a campsite in a village called Mukrito which is very good (between San Sebastian and Bilbao) - village is 10 minutes walk (down a hill) - very pretty fishing village with a number of bars where you can eat on the cheap!

Re: spanish pyrenees campsite info needed

I used a site on the N240, to the east of Jaca, near Santa Cilia, last year - Camping Pirineos. Nice and quiet and easy to find.

On the way to Santander I popped to the coast and a small village named Noja, just off of the CA141. Several camp sites in the village. I used the first one I came across - can't remember the name - sorry, but it's easy enough to find and there are several right on the beach front.
The village is about 30 miles from Santander, and following the CA141 takes you right into the town, where the signage is good and gets you to the port no bother - well it did for me

Found the Noja camp site - it's called Camping Argos !

I think it`s spelt Mutriku,I traveled there last July whilst touring the area San Sebastion,Pamplona for the bull run,and most resorts inbetween, Mukrito is a lovely fishing village with steep winding streets and great bars don`t Know about a camp site though because I stayed at a hotel in Zarautz, but the area and the N 634 is a must for every biker.
This might also be of interest to you.
