LD Lines Portsmouth - Le Havre (a warning)
A word of warning to anyone using this route to cross the Channel this Summer.
I crossed that way overnight last weekend and won't be repeating the experience in a hurry.
LD Lines have a new boat. There are a few more cabins and a few more sleeper seats, but they were all fully booked, leaving a hundred or so people looking for somewhere to sleep.
Unlike the old ship, there are no carpeted areas and no reclining seats. The decks are hard wood laminate and the seats are all single upright chairs.
There were families wandering around looking for somewhere to sleep, or queuing up at reception hoping for cancellations so they could have a cabin or a sleeper seat.
We eventually found a piece of deck by the slot machines (and pulled the plugs out).
To add insult to injury, they didn't even dim the lights like they used to.
