    Thailand. Ride or fly?

I have a new friend in Thailand

    Simple question.

Should I ride there, with iran/pakistan/russia/kazakstan/china to deal with Or should I just make it easy on myself, and fly?

If you have the time and finances to ride there... WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ASKING US ????

Get on your bike and go you fool, before the sensible option prevails!!!!

Finances? Sell my car, live in a tent - wash in the river... you get the picture..
Sadly, ive got to finish putting my bike back together first, so there's time for the sensible option to keep poking at me!

I would say fly ( if your arms can flap for that long )
Then buy or hire a cheap bike out there for pottering around.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Agreed. Its a long round trip for a weeks stay. I'll probably fly, see if it could turn out to be a permanent thing, then take the bike down if I decide to stay. Sounds mad, but in my experience, my stupid ideas always turn out to be the best!

Depending on what you want to do you should check out this site

Motorcycle Touring & Maps: Thailand : Laos : Golden Triangle

Good maps and ride reports, including trips in Laos and Cambodia

If you're buying a bike the most reasonably priced tends to be 200cc Kawasaki cruiser style, assembled in Thailand. Spares and service cheap. You can tour, 2 up in reasonable comfort.
If you just want a runabout - beach-bar-hotel rent a step through. V cheap.
'Big bikes' are all imported and carry high import duty so are expensive.
