Tiger: should I be worried about this?

I noticed this last weekend on a ride. It seems there is some oil on that part of the engine (don't know what it's called, sorry). It doesn't seem to really leak (can't see stuff lying under the bike), but it's definitely oiley.

Should I be worried?

Pictures below...

And another...

.
Looks like a weep from the small upper cover, a new gasket would probably cure it.

It would'nt worry me unduly. (providing oil level ok)

Re: Tiger: should I be worried about this?

the left hand engine bolts on my tiger hadnt been torqued down properly, silly but just try nipping the bolts up and see if that cures the problem. if not it will just need a new gasket.

That would indeed be dirt, 3 days of touring the peak district with heaps of rain on the last day... She needs a polish.

Will drop by the Triumph dealer and see if he can check the torque on the bolts. Maybe I'll just have him change the oil completely and just get it over with.

Thanks for the advice guys!

'phone Sprint Manufacturinghttp://www.triumphparts.gbr.cc/

They'll know if that model is prone to anything you need to worry about. Haven't yet had a Triumph question they couldn't answer (usually before I'd finished asking the question).

Quote:
Q My 1995 Speed Triple coolant warning light...
A keeps flickering on and off? That'll be the earth wire that comes out the back of the headlight to the steering head, it always breaks.

Q The engine runs cold but loses spark...
A ..when it warms up? Yes that'll be the ignition sensor on the RHS end of the crank, you'll want a new one and gasket we have them in stock.

Q The left hand fork...
A ...seal has blown? We have pattern ones in stock for £2.50, sorry they're so expensive. Or we have special ones that last...

Q The idiot lights...
A ...stops working when that bit of wiring loom in the pod between the headlamps packs in. Always happens. When you fit the new one make sure the waterproof sleeve goes right into the clocks, if it's exposed it fills with water. We have some used one and new ones in stock.

etc. etc. etc.
They're so near telepathic I wouldn't be surprised to have a parcel and invoice turn up at the door the day before the bike breaks down

Web site was a bit rubbish last time I looked, so you may want to just pick up the 'phone.

Re: Tiger: should I be worried about this?

Nothing drastic, slight weep from cover as above, pinch the bolts up with a torque wrench so you don't overdo it or replace the gasket sometime, do keep an eye on the oil level though, it doesn't look like it, but sometimes these joints can blow quite a bit of oil vapour when out on a long run that doesn't look much when the casings cool down.

BTW did you see this one round the Peak District, spotted parked up at the Cat & Fiddle the other week

Re: Tiger: should I be worried about this?

all wrong.
It is the seal on the crank shaft cover.

Don't worry too much, if it is under warranty ask for the seal to be replaced, if not change it yourself or live with it.

Asking a question like that on here is a waste of time. If you need advise on what colour bike to have this is the place to be.
