Angry Dont talk to me about triumph fuel couplings

poor ole buggles comes over here for a service and some general farkling on his very nice tiger ..and whilst removing the tank his fuel couplings disintegrate

im bloody fuming with myself for what i think is a classic school boy error and feeling so sorry for him after dropping him off at the station to get him home

hopefully he can get the parts tomorrow so i can get him back on the road.

still steaming i decide to have a troll through the triumph forum only to find that this seems to be a common problem

it would seem triumph issued a recall to replace the MALE part of the coupling from plastic to metal, and buggles bike has had this recall done.

but didnt issue a recall to replace the female part thats installed in the pump housing

and its this part thats gone on buggles bike

i mean FFS if your going to issue a recall then do the freakin job properly

but i still blame myself i feel maybe i could have avoided it

buggles im sorry but by hook or by crook i'll have you back on the road tomorrow mate

Oh dear I have so been there......I did exactly the same myself (and lost half a tank of fuel into the bargain, the worst bit is actually getting out the remaining plastic thread what a pain in the ass!

fortunately Windy corner in hinckley keeps them in stock at a tenner each

I'm sure in one of the threads there is a link to a site that supplies brass fittings to replace these but then your gonna be looking at replacing both ends.... I'll see if I can find it

Re: Dont talk to me about triumph fuel couplings

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about mate - males and females copulating under a triumph petrol tank *- but I'm damn sure Buggles can see it wasn't your fault, it's Triumphs - and when he's back on the road it'll be a hell of a lot better than any triumph monkey with a spanner would have done.

* I'll await Vaders indepth expert analysis

Re: Dont talk to me about triumph fuel couplings

Guess the "victim" should chime in as well. On the tube home as I type.

I don't blame Chad for a second, these things happen.

It's unfortunate, and infuriating, but I've had 35 mins on the train to meditate and I can't get worked up about it... I guess all that stuff about Zen and the art of Motorcycle maintenance is true

Fortunately, there are two stunning ladies sitting across from me in the tube, so at least I can get some ogling done

Should sort out the parts tomorrow and be back on the road quickly.

Keep smiling!

JB

According to my local Trumpet dealer this is all to common a problem, the plastic goes brittle with age (just waiting for the tank to be removed)
he also said he couldn't understand why when they recalled for the male side of the coupling the didn't also recall the female, you should find that most dealers have them on the shelf though if its such a common problem.

Well, I've got the parts... Not the ones Digital is referring to, they would have been cheaper. 14.62 per coupling. I bought 3, just to be sure

I tried, but the minute I said I wanted a picture of them waving at a member... they didn't even let me finish the sentence...

"No mr. Transport Policeman, I didn't want them to do anything to my member, I wanted them to wave to A member (of our forum)..."

Re: Dont talk to me about triumph fuel couplings

and young buggles is currently winging his way home now..though we did have a brief scare with the engine management warning light that came on but it settled down after a test ride must be somthing to do with all the plugs we had to dissconnect during the service

i have to say that the fuel coupling issues aside the tiger is quite a nice bike to work on and the mantra for working on them must be

fuel coupling fuel coupling watch those ****in fuel couplings
