    1050 ?....any good?

This will open a right can of worms, but.......
Im a Transalp owner, never really gone off road, so i dont really need too.
I do love the riding position as i will do many miles, i stumbled accross the 1050 - a road Tiger, but if i splash the cash i want it to last and be as reliable as my Alp....
Love the style of the bike / the looks / performance looks mint.....
just the reliability issue bothers me a bit....

    Any thoughts?

    cheers.

I had a Sprint ST 1050 and build quality and reliability is right up there with the very best of them. I'm thinking about a Tiger myself, I will have to get a test ride first though.

I went from a tranalp to a 1050 tiger, its like chalk and cheese. the tiger is awesome, much much better. I bought my tiger in march 2007 and have covered 66,000 miles so far. reliability?, hmmm - i have had a few problems with mine - at 12,000 miles it was burning oil (a litre in 600 miles) which turned out to be a broken piston. new pistons, rings and liners were fitted under warranty, a while later it started burning oil again due to a batch of badly honed liners, which i had fitted (sod's law)triumph again fitted new pistons rings and liners under warranty and so far has been fine. a few other problems which my dealer have been superb with stripping replacment parts off showroom bikes if needed to keep me on the road. it still comes up like new even at this mileage with a little pitting on the bottom of the fork legs and discolouring on the oil cooler lines. other than that its immaculate. Due to excellent service from the dealer ( Destination Triumph) i will replace this tiger with another at 5 yrs or 200,000 miles. go and test ride one they are superb.

Dont think im gonna be doing the mile you do sean, my alp was my only form of transport until january when i got a co. car so my bike sits tucked up m-f and only makes an appearance at weekends.

My only concern is seat height - i've only little stumps for legs (im 5'8").

Domenic I can't comment on the 1050 but I've had my 955 for 12 months and done 4500 miles on it without a single reliability issue, its now done 17500 miles and the engine frame and bodywork come up like new.......I certainly don't think theres any build quality issues for you to worry about
