You can challenge the dealer under the Sale of Goods Act (SOGA), your contract is with him not with the manufacturer. I did this recently outside the warranty period (and in fact 12 months after the incident) with Piaggio for my Guzzi concerning a latent defect in their build that resulted in an oil leak and a £600 repair. I got my money back from the dealer as good will even though they'd dropped links with Piaggio.

There are some standard letters available on the net just search SOGA. They are obliged to respond within a set period maybe 14 days. If not satisfied you can then follow up in the small claims court which I dont beleive costs.....you do most of this on line I think.
