    Insurance, are they kidding?!

I got my bike delivered around 1pm this afternoon. Now I've got this BIG metallic blue thing sitting in the garage waiting to be insured. But there's just one little hitch. The books say that the Vara is just one insurance group above the @, right? And the insurance for my @ was just £80 third party only. Well, my insurance company wants, now wait for it....£99 on top of what I paid for the @!!! What, for a bike that's only in the next insurance group up from my old @?! Do any of you think they're being just a tad excessive (a.k.a. ripping me off ) here for a bike that's Group 13 compared to my @'s Group 12?

you cant just go on insurance groups, my buell was a group 15 as was a triumph daytona i was looking at, at the same time. now get this

    Buell-£400

    triumph-£1200

same insurance company on the same day, same cost, both group 15, how does that work?

as you can see what put me off the triumph, they said because it had a fairing and alot were written off it was higher

so why dont they put the two bikes in different insurance groups to give us an idea when buying

My AT's about £200 full comp so for me thats cheap

Then again, my ZX-7 Ninja was cheaper than that to insure (about £140-£160)! Go figure that one out!

I pay £117 from ebike insurance. Fully comp with 6 points. And it's a black one so obviously more desirable.

So, are you saying that a whole load was bundled on because I was merely changing my bike rather than buying a year's insurance? Considering the expense of insuring my old Ninja and seeing that the Vara is hardly a boy racer's bike, I was expecting about £100 including my old @ insurance, not for £100 to be added on top!

Would I be right in assuming that if I were buying a new year's insurance rather than changing over bikes around £100 is about what I'd be paying?

maybe maybe not depends on your records with insurance but it probably wont be far off that but remember this is no @ that your insuring you now have 100bhp instead of 65bhp and a shed load of plastics to repair if it asll goes tits up and parts are most likely more exspensive on the vara as well

so it stands to reason that the vara will be more pricey to insure

Oh yes, I agree with everything you say if only I was taking out Third Part Fire and Theft. But I'm only taking out Third Party Only, which kinda makes the price of repair null and void. This only leaves the model type of bike (is it a high risk bike?) and performance. I only paid £80 TPO, so I was expecting the TPO for the Vara to be something around £100, especially with the Vara's insurance group only being in the next level from the @.
