Thinking about acquiring a XL125V, advice needed!

Dont worry, not selling my trust AT

Want to get a very cheap, winter hack and was wondering if the XL125V would do the trick.

Needs to be very economical on the fuel and be able to cruise in comfort at aroung 60'ish on the motorway which is where I do most of my commuting miles.

Can somebody advise if the XL125V would fit the bill? Don't need anything too powerful engine-wise. Any idea of the MPG figures? I am guessing it will be excellent considering only a small engine.

Of course if anybody can offer an alternative all ears

They're quite expensive I think, look better than the 1000 though.

    XL125V

Had one for a couple of months and liked it. Handles well due to its size and weight, like a full size bike, but because of only been a 125 it feels a little slow.

If you can get one at the right price go for it!

    Thanks for info.

Want something I can commute on daily cheaply, the AT which I currently use is fine but the old girl is lucky to give me a mpg figure in the 40's even if cruising at 60mph.

So if the XL can improve on that, which I guess it must considering is only 125cc then willing to give it a go.

Of course trying to find one for a "good" price is another story .... if anyone selling all ears

    Here's a tip then.

If the bike's getting a bit older it might be a good idea to replace the needle jets (and perhaps the needles themselves) in the carbs because they tend to wear out over time causing the bike to run rich in the midrange.

I replaced the needle jet on my NX at about 40k miles, and fuel consumption went from 45ish to 52 overnight!

The GS has just gotten the same treatment (ie new needles and needle jets) so I'm curious what that's going to do. Cost me about a tenner for the GS, so for an AT it'll probably be something like 50 quid

Still a lot cheaper than a second bike. (Thenagain you don't get a second bike then )

Here's a pic of the needle jet from the NX, the new one and the old one. The difference is actually visible with the naked eye:
