    Removal of petrol tank

    Hi Folks,

On a recent tour of Devon I noticed my touring Scotoiler was not functioning & checking it out I reckon the connection to the fuel injection has broken or snapped off. I need to remove the tank to check it out & need some advice from you guys on how it comes off.

Looks as if the fairing needs to come off both sides first, then I imagine the 2 bolts at the rear of the tank under the seat, next does it just lift off from the front or is there another fixture.

Finally there isn't a fuel tap so how does one prevent spillage - the fuel lights just come on so I guess there's only a couple of litres to worry about but does it need draining?

Sorry for all the questions but appreciate all the help you can give me

    Thanks
    pete

Hmmmm I haven't had the tank off my Vara yet, but am going to need to in the next couple of weeks.

If you're just tracking down or pushing back on a Scottoiler tube you might get away with just raising the rear of the tank...prop it up with the little thingy that looks like a mini- pan stand that took me forever to figure out what it was for on the AT!

Its easy, the front fairing does not have to come off, you remove the side screws that connect the fairing panel to the petrol tank

Remove the 2 front bolts and the rear bolt then lift the tank up, disconnect the fuel pipe and breathers, switch the fuel taps off

And lift the tank off, i would suggest you do this with a near empty tank as 25 lites for a full tank is nearly 25kg

    Good god! Not the hammer!

Easy enough, I had mine off in a couple of minutes, agree, no panel removal, just take out the fasteners, tank slips back after you remove the bolts. Watch where the pipes come off from though!
