    Vara... Maybe...

    Hiya

I took out a Vara for a Test Spin Saturday... (Currently exploring the Option of another Bike, to keep the milage down on my @)...

Must say, I was mightily impressed...

New 2006 Model... Offered at £6800 from Honda Dealer (ABS Version), which I thought seemed a bit high, isn't there a new model being launched in July?

Anyway, still gotta get out on a Tiger and a Strom before I choose (Or maybe even another @), but I'm thinking maybe buying Used... Looking maybe for Low Mileage couple of year old machine, maybe private...

Anything in particular I should be looking for problem wise on the Bike?

    Thanx People

    Hey Fletch!

i've just bought one - 20k '99 model and it is mint and i only paid £2500!
    (well my bike and £500)

there are a few threads in this section where i asked about potential problems and pitfalls and it would seem that there aren't that many!
i'd link you to the thread if i knew how!

i think the best indication is the low number of problems with the bikes that crop up on this forum!

for what it's worth i love mine!

    Z

Stacks of low mileage Mk1 (carbed, not fuel injected) Vara's keep cropping up on Ebay. It's a shed load of bike for not very much money at all, I guess to due the impression that they're a bit "lardy".

However, this seems to be an opinion formed by people who've never ridden one or never ridden one for the purpose for which they are intended ie touring and eating up lots of miles in great comfort.

None of us who have one, either carbed or injected have a bad word to say about them. Nuff said.

Hi there, well, I'll not knock the Vara, I enjoyed mine, I covered most of Europe on mine and can't fault the bike. Offroad I found it a bit lardy so fancied a change.

I just thought I'd let you know I've been riding the 955i Tiger for almost a year now and can't praise the bike enough. Build quality is very good, as good as Honda if not better. They hold their value well and they're British!

The Tiger is a more comfortable bike at long distance in my opinion, 200 miles at a time and fresh as a daisy. top speeds about the same, 130 mph+, better economy though, around 50mpg. First ride, the Tiger is strange, the power's all up the revs compared to the twins and handling wise, it seems to drop like a stone into corners, although after a couple of weeks I could touch down both pegs! A slightly sportier feel than the Honda, but still comfy with it.

I don't know about the new one, I'm waiting to see if there is a new adventure style Tiger in the pipeline but I can vouch for the 955i, cracking bike.
