    vtr engine in the vara

This subject may already have been covered, but does anybody know if a vtr sp1 engine can be transplanted into the carbed vara?

possible is your engine fooked????? cos i cant really see any gains otherwise as the SP1 lump is much peakier than the vara lump so you will lose that creamy bottom end torque for a screamer of a lump

Nothing wrong with the engine. Its just that I have a chance of getting hold of a spare vtr engine and wouldn't mind seeing what the vara would be like with a few extra horses available. As for bottom end torque, its always seemed a bit lumpy so I tend to keep the revs up a bit anyway.

worth a go then dude the only issues i can see you having are where the carbs would go as the SP1 was fuel injected....i think

let us know how you get on

NO! Something to do with the fitting of the swing arm and the attachments on the back of the crank case.
There was an American on the International Forum struggling with the problem. As far as I am aware he is still struggling

Hmmm. Looks like i'm goin to have to get hold of the engine and see if I can graft the top end onto mine. I do know the vtr has twin valve springs and the cam lobes & timings different. but the heads look essentially the same. Just gotta remember to get two buckets for the bits & pieces.

I know its been a while, but I just thought I'd let you all know what I've been up to with my Vara.
I've swapped the old carbs for a set off a firestorm, fitted firestorm cams and fitted a nice pair of remus revolution end cans.
    Result?
Big increase in acceleration, longer legs between gear changes and the top end is .... well I don't know because after an indicated speed of 140 and still climbing I bottled it and slowed down to a more sedate pace.

Still smooth at low revs (if not smoother) and hasn't suffered much with the fuel consumption.

Was out with a gang of hooligans on R1's & Gixers last week and the old Vara a quited itself very nicely.

    Sounds good mate
I've an 09 Vara and I can understand what you mean by it being smoother at the lower revs, I put Venum cans on to mine and the power increase smoothed out the vibe a bit. Often wondered what it would be like with a bit more go
    Well done! !

Congratulations for making it all work successfully. Personally I've seldom felt the need more power! But maybe if my mates had sports bikes...

Surely you just breeze past them at roundabouts though?

With the mods. I've done. It's just turned a really good all rounder into an awesome all rounder.
The standard Vara can be a real weapon in the right hands anyway away from A roads and motorways, which is why I've kept mine for so long. I only bought it to use as a work bike. But after taking it all round Portugal & Spain twice, I love it and wouldn't swap it for anything.
I wouldn't mind trying the later F.I. model but the old Vara would have to stay. Besides I'd probably be trying to find ways to graft the sp1-2 injection system & throttle bodies onto the thing and the the pennies would be dissapearing.
The firestorm cams & carbs cost a lot less than the remus cans and thats where the extra power's come from.
I'm thinking of taking it to the dyno to see what sort of increase in power its got (just out of curiosity) and I'll post the results.
