    power sockets

i want to put a 12v power socket on my varadero, but i dont want to spend £55 on the honda one. someone on here must've done it?

i want one down low on the frame that can wire straight onto the battery, for the heated waistcoat and charging, but i need one on the dash where the honda one usually goes, for my GPS. is it better to wire this onto the battery or can i plumb it into an existing circuit up there?
    both will have 5A fuses

    Re: power sockets

    Something like this?

I used the guide in the Wiki section fitting it using a relay onto my V4 Vara.
A power socket wasn't offered as an accessory on my bike from Honda so no plug was available on the wiring loom for the power socket. If your wiring loom offers such a connection I would use it to avoid any warranty issues.

    Re: power sockets

I bought a couple of pre-wired sockets from Nippy Normans. Not the cheapest option, but definitely the lazy mans option!

I have one sneakily cable tied to the frame in the "hole" shown on the pic so I can leave stuff locked under the seat on charge, and one on my handlbars for phones and stuff while I'm on the move.

    Re: power sockets

cheers guys, ive already got two sockets, (look like the left hand one on mrniceguys pic, spring loaded waterproof cover) from vehicle wiring products.
i was just wondering where the easiest place to put them is. i think, because its a new bike, i will wire them straight onto the battery with simple ring connectors, and put the sockets on diy brackets using strategically placed existing fasteners. that way, if the bike goes tits up they can easily "dissappear" before the dealer gets hold of it.
cant see any problems if i put a 5A inline in each cable though.

    Re: power sockets

You could always use one of those pre-wired socket extensions and just zip tie where required.

If you've got the same socket as my left one then it will be a din rather than a the more common cigarette socket so you may have to change your plugs over.

yes, all my stuff is DIN, from having BMWs and triumphs, i can reccommend those universal plugs with the pull off end, that do DIN and fag lighter sockets. means you can use stuff on the bike or in the car without step downs and extensions.

go to the scrap yard and take one out of any car you can find it doesn't cost anything probably at worst 50p for wire and 2 crimps

    Re: power sockets

put one on a bracket bolted to the preload adjuster bolt (look at robsters pic) wired straight to the battery.
its out of the way, and looks like it belongs there.
i want one up by the clocks too, eventually, but i dont want to start drilling holes in a 57plate yet!! give it a couple of months....
