    givi crash bars

    hi,
i'm about to fit givi crashbars to my 04 varadero,i read somewhere the torque of the bolts was crucial for handling ,can anybody tell me the correct torque settings for these bolts?

This site is brilliant! I fitted Givi crash bars today and there was no info on torque settings. (From the way the bolts undid I guessed it would be around 20-30 lb ft.) A brief search on here and bingo! Thanks.

    Re: givi crash bars

Just about to fit the set of Givi bars I bought on flea-bay. Read in a previous thread that these should come with longer bolts to replace the frame to engine mounting bolts. Needless to say mine didn't come with any bolts. Do I need them or not?

I took out my original bolts and fired on the crashbars, I think they did come with longer bolts, although I do have one left over! I then tightened them up, no torque wrench so just tightened them up, I know they won't come out! Ha ha!

am i right in thinking some of these bolts are engine mounts? then torque would be quite important then, i would think.

Well if you didn't need them givi wouldn't have supplied them so yes they are needed. You should also have a spacer for the right hand side to stop the bars from nicking the brake pipes as they head to the rear of the bike but I suppose a washer or two would do.

If it were me I would get onto the seller (or givi) and ask for the correct bolts and spacer.

As for torquing them up I couldn't get a torque wrench on the bolts so using my experience I did them up to what I felt was about the figures given.
