rubber tubes and where to stick 'em!?!?

    Ok!!

i took the tank off last night to double check everything and to give the inaccesible bits a clean and i have noticed that there is a pipe onthe bottom of my tank that is not attached to anything and also another larger diameter pipe that comes from the bowels of the bike and is not attached to anything!

i presume that these are the fabled breather and drain pipes - however i do not know what they should attach to - i'm guessing that the larger diameter pipe goes on the larger diameter outlet onthe tank? or does the smaller pipe from the tank go into the larger pipe onthe bike??

could someone with a carbadero please have a look a theirs and let me know cos the Haynes mentions it but it isn't a great description!

a photo of under the tank with the rear of the tank raised would be excellent but i know that is asking alot.

i'd rather hook it all up properly as i'm guessing that there is a reason for those pipes.

if anyone can help i'd appreciate it - thanks

    Z

Urrrm I've had mine off a couple of times...But I'm not really Mr Technical, and also I cant remember!

Maybe get a pic of your pipes (so to speak) and then someone will be able to point you to where to stick them. Shep's a bit of an undertank kinda guy...drop him a line!

Do the pipes have marks where clamps or clips were? If not maybe they are like some of the AT ones that don't connect to anything except the atmosphere.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

thought about that - there is one that appears to be the right diameter for the breather and is on the left of the bike looking from behind and the illustration in the haynes indicated that this should be the other way around!

    wierd all round!

right - here is a picture of the bigger of the pipes that is linked to nothing!

In the top right of the pic is a pipe with a join that i had previously capped (with a white thingy off a bungie strap end!) i think that one of the pipes off the tank goes on this ) The thin one in the next picture!
I stuch this thick pipe on the outlet on the bottom of the tank that hasn't got a pipe on it!!

    see this pic

i stuck the pipe onthe tank onto the union with the other two and the thick pipe on the outlet on the right!

i suppose that at some point i should do something about the rust on the bottom but there ya go!!

    Ho Z-Weiser,

I've had the tank off several times and can inform that the two pipes push onto the two stubs illustrated in the photo, I've not been curious enough to follow them back to where they come from. I guess they are just breather / overflow pipes.
It is a bit of a trial to get them back on as the tank needs to be nearly back in place to get the pipes to reach. It's fiddly but not too difficult.
There is also a little stand supplied with the bike that goes between tank and mounting bolt holes. If you've got a strange looking square of approx 6mm diameter steel that lives under your seat and ever wondered what it's for - now you know.

    Have fun,

    Paul
