I have made one myself. Even cheaper than the one from Desertstorm

I've used 4mm rubber wich normaly is used to make gaskets from.

I don't know if it will fit the ABS version, maybe you must change it a little so it will fit? The Desertstorm site says they have a specific design for the 2004 ABS version so maybe it is a little different...
I don't know where you can get the 4mm rubber, I got it from my work..

does it go in front or behind the rectifier?(varadero VA6)
i think perhaps if you cut off the top section it could bolt up nicely using the rectifier bracket? i will have a look later......
yes, you can use the rectifier bracket. if you sandwich the rubber between the rectifier and the backing plate, then use longer bolts to hold it. i used a 6mm thick bit of rubber stiff enough to keep a bit of curl to let all the muck run off but not get in the way of the swingarm movement.
i will take a pic or two later.
if you look in the members pic gallery and search for my (davsato) album its in there. its wired straight to the battery with a 5A fuse, although the socket from vehicle wiring products is rated up to 20A i think. 5A is enough for my gadgets and the GPS has its own 2A fuse anyway. you'll have to excuse the 'oil leak' look, when i took the pic the bike had just had its pre winter ACF50 bath.
i put it there because my garmin GPS loom has been customised to fit the socket on my triumph which was there, so the length is perfect. i had a nasty experience once with cables jamming the headstock so i dont like sockets on the dash, and well, to be honest im just used to it being there!

Nice work Dave!
Looks very neat there - carbon fibre bracket as well! Smart.
I might give that space some thought when I come to fit mine.
Would still like to see a pic of your flap (if you pardon the expression!) if you can get one sometime.
its just a flap of stiff rubber, nothing to write home about but it does keep muck from the wheel off the shock. its 150mm square, with two 10mm holes 30mm down, about 70mm apart (to suit rectifier bolts, cant remember exactly now, but a 6mm bolt in a 10mm hole does give a bit of leeway)
the awkward part is getting the rectifier off and back on again, its fiddly but easier if you take off the L/H side panel and the chainguard. if i remember i'll take a pic tomorrow
