    Bike wont start pls help

    Hi guys,

I was fitting oxford heated grips to my fi vara tonight.

I took the positive feed from front brake light switch, it works and bike starts. Switched the bike off and went for dinner.

30mins later, try to start the bike again, it wont start.

Normally, when I start there is a approx 2 secs of computer scaning sound but not it does not have it.

I took the heated grips connection off, still nothing no computer sound and wont start.

brake lights work and when i press the start button , it does ticks

Has the Vara got can-bas as it has HISS and try disconecting the power supply from the brake light switch go to the fuse box and find the ignition feed fuse. If not take the power supply off the battery

You have probably checked, but nothing as simple as a partially discharged battery, or that the grips are switched on and taking too much power.

On my Vara the grips are also wired into the brake light switch wiring but there doesn't seem to be enough current to keep them on at low revs - the lights on the switch for the grips start flashing after about 5 seconds at tickover, and after about 2 seconds if I have the brake lights on and will eventually switch themselves off. I was planning to rewire them direct to the battery and a relay switched by the brake light circuit.

I just put the bike in charge now.

Also checked the fuses and they look fine.

I dont understand why the red oil light is on and there is no the usual computer scaning sound>?

Should I worry it could be a faulty computer unit ?

Worry about one thing at a time and the best place to start is the battery. found my Vara quite sensitive to battery condition. Lights would shine bright but it wouldn't turnover, resorted to using a battery conditioner and never had a problem from then.

oil pressure light should be on until engine starts, only worry about that if it comes on or stays on while engine is running.

as to your electrics, dont know what youve done. that whirring and clicking before starting up is the fuel pumps priming, if its not doing that you might have a dodgy ignition circuit? dont envy you that, with the HISS and everything.

we always think the worst case scenario but its probably something simple though, have you wired the grips so they can be on all the time even with the bike switched off? heated grips will flatten a battery very quickly........

Re: Bike wont start pls help

Almost certainly a partially flattened battery, or maybe just a loose connection. The starter takes far more current than the lights, so the fact that they're working rules out some things but doesn't rule out a partially flat battery.

I actually found out the problem on early sat, cant sleep with all these worries in mind. As there was no sound from the fuel pump at all, I am pretty sure it was not the battery. It was indeed not the battery, but something really stupid (including myself), do u want to give it a guess?

I rode the bike on Sat, the grips are pretty hot at 1/4 power and gps is charging too. They all take positive feed from the front brake light switch. GPS is not on abroad very often so hopefully it will be fine in such arrangement.
