noisy Vara... what... I said NOISY VARA

Took my Vara to work today instead of the TA, and I have to say it is a very noisy bike. I thought the TA was quite noisy but its been 3 weeks since I rode the vara and I had forgotten how noisy it is. I have got the standard screen on, on its lowest setting as I found that was least turbulent. I also have a (Givi?) high screen - but don't like it - noise, lack of air flow onto visor, limits view ahead, and aesthetics.

What does anyone else find - just point me at another thread if this has been done to death already. I would have thought a lower/cut down screen would be the answer to get my head poking out into cleaner flowing air. I am going to have to investigate ear plugs.

Anyone got an old screen they want rid of?

i had the same problem with noise

i cut down my old sreen - made it better but i think it has something to do with the shape of the fairing at the front as without any screen it is pretty quiet with a stubby one a bit noisier and then with a normal one even worse - the extra tall one that i have now is good but still a little louder than i would like!

cut down is good - i'd let you have my cut down one if you like but i don't think the carbadero and injectordero screens are compatible!

Check these out:Both z-weiser and I have trimmed screens down. I usually revert to the standard one in the winter (it's good for keeping the salty road spry off the visor) but for the rest of th yea a short screen reduces turbulence and buffetting.

I think the fundamental problem is that the standard scren is too vertical. If it sloped backwards more, and perhaps diverted the breeze to either side instead of upwards, there would be less wind noise around the crash helpmet.

The best solution for you will depend in part on your height and type of crash helmet. Reagardless I'd recommend ear plugs even if you do find a combination that works better.

i get turbulence(=noise) around my shoulders. im a 6'2" and 18st wideboy and the standard screen isnt wide enough for me. it doesnt bother me around the head though. i was thinking of the secdem/bullster screen, its about 2" wider all round but how about steering lock? the handguards are right up against the standard screen on full lock as it is.

i might try riding without a screen completely when the weather gets better, see what thats like.

austin the best screen for the vara is the MRA vario screen i went from the standard to the givi then onto the MRA when i had my vara and i felt it was the best compromise between turbulance and protection . i found when i got the setting right i managed to cut out 90% of the turbulance reducing the noise drastically and if you give vader a shout he may even find you a bargain on german ebay like he did with mine

also ask MacP how he gets on with the MRA as he now has my vara..i would say he is about the same stamp as you

Not found the noise thing a problem to be honest so that's saying something. I had one of these screens on my AT but it was of the type similar to Robster and that was good too....

I will be investigating an MRA screen, I am also booked in to an audiologist to take some impressions of ears for custom ear plugs.

On my TA the wind off the screen hits my upper chest and any noise in my helmet comes from the air rushing over my shoulder and under the helmet. I have a Shoei XR1000 and with a whisper strip and chin curtain noise is kept to acceptable level.

On the Vara though is the wind is either hitting my helmet or going over, but all the noise is from the top and side of my helmet and it is VERY NOISY indeed. Changing screen setting and even to a high screen didn't really make that much difference to noise level, but the wind hits a bit lower - probably visor level with the standard screen on low. I also get vibration at highish speeds, enough to make seeing difficult sometimes.

I still fancy Robster's and Z's solution of a cut down screen though.

as previous post any second hand one's out there?
