    Very good grips though
Insert a relay as per the Wiki instructions for fitting a power socket so that they only come on with the ignition. Should cost you no more than a £5 to adjust.

My oxford grips are wired to the rear light and have been for over a year - no problems at all and toasty warm

shep, i agree, if its all wired up and working dont change what youve done, just put a relay in it that only makes a circuit when the ignition is on.

i thought the honda grips were supposed to be good? the oem ones on my old triumph were superb, no idea what temp or wattage they were but certainly toasty!
i was annoyed with myself not to have got the grips when i got the varadero, but maybe now im not so sure. i like the oxford grips but i dont like the controller, and ive known a couple of mates who have screwed theirs up. i prefer a simple OFF-1-2 rocker switch personally.
i like the symtec films from windy roads, might give them a go. because they are a film element you put under your own grips they are only £37 too

get one of the new Oxford switches, they have the voltage sensors in them and switch off when voltage drops below 11.6v. This is what I have on my TA and it works as I am forever leaving them on. Also switches them off if you have too many other things running - fog lamps, indicators, autocomm etc. Recommended, but a bit glove unfriendly - I have stuck a couple of rubber washers on top of the switches to make it easier to switch on/off. Oh and make sure you get the mounting bracket as well.

The Honda heated grips are great bits of kit, capable of burning your hands through summer gloves and reliable.

I think your dealer is little bit useless like every one has said they are are wired into the ignition so if the they flatten the battery they aren't wired up correctly or you have the alternator from a C90 on your Vara.

As others have said, I think your dealer is being a bit dubious with the truth! My Vara (07 same as yours) has the Honda grips and they're very good - have rarely had them on "full" setting as they're too hot!
It does cut out when idling (LEDs on switch just flash) so I can't see how it can drain the battery. Overall, I'm impressed with them & I can't see how you could only wire up half of them. I think the dealer may need a prod in the right direction as it sounds like a poor excuse for either a faulty product or poor workmanship!

Honda heated grips are great - your dealer perhaps is being less than candid with you about this.

He might as well as said that the problem he was talking about was worse on Blue vara's (i.e that's an equally daft thing to say...)

Question Re: Honda Fitted Heated Grips

Anyone have any advice about the caps that go on then end of the heated grips!? My local dealer put honda grips on last year and i have lost 3 caps, due to falling out. They appear only to be held in by the rubber grips pinching them in place, but as soon as you move bike around (in my garage or tight parking space) they can easily fall out and be lost. Honda charges £5 for replacements!

    Help or advice plz?

I lost one before on my alp, a bit of glue of will do the trick.

They are still there after 10 months.

    hope this helps

Sorry to hear your trouble with that dealer but having bought two bikes from them can say I'm not surprised at their service department
