ASKED THEM TO LOOK AT THE HEATED GRIPS , FITTED BY THE DEALER IN THERE WINTER PACK PROMOTION , THIS IS ON AN O7 BOUGHT LAST NOVEMBER.
BASICALLY THERE CRAP, OR THERES SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM, HE TOLD ME THEY ONLY WIRE UP HALF THE ELEMENT DUE TO GRIPS DRAINING THE BATTERY!!

HAVE ANY OF YOU GUY'S GOT ANY COMPLAINTS OR IS IT JUST ME,
HAS ANY ONE HAD HEATED GRIPS FITTED BY DOBLES OF COULSDON RECENTLY..

    APPRECIATE ANY COMMENTS OR ADVICE.

Someones taking the piss out of you mate !!

Honda heated grips are wired through the ignition so they only function when the ignition is on - ie no battery drain problems. There is bags of overage in the alternator.

I have no idea how, even if you wanted to , that you could wire half the element ????????

I had Honda brand heated grips fitted to my Transalp they were superb, much better than the KTM branded ones fitted to my current bike.

Someone has either made an arse of fitting yours originally or your getting spun some load of bollacks now.

    Re: Honda Fitted Heated Grips

Is the positive feed taken from front brake light switch ?

You can trip to fit it using a relay.

I have wired Honda grips to my alp and tdm 900 before I took positive from dash board / head lights but they don't seem to have much to do with the heat delivered. These grips only work when engine running.

I now fitted Oxford grips to my varadero, positive from front brake switch, it works and pretty work too.

I have come to a conclusion that it is the design rather than the way u wire it.

If u really want warm hands, it may be good to change to oxford.

    Hope this help.

    Re: Honda Fitted Heated Grips

There is a full set of fitting instructions for the Honda OE Heated Grips here. They are generic so the fitting instructions will apply to all Honda bikes.

I have put the OE grips on both of my @s and really rate them - too hot to have at full blast.

They only heat if enough power is being produced - so you'll find that if you have your lights on etc, then they will stop working at tickover, and only start heating again once the revs are up. This is a built in safety feature so that they DO NOT drain your battery.

I can't see how you could only wire half the element - the OE wiring harness for them is a 'plug & play' straight into the original bike loom - so unless Honda have made a product that requires cutting into the bike loom then I reckon your Dealer is spinning you an excuse.

    Re: Honda Fitted Heated Grips

As far I know my grips were fitted by Honda, and I am very unimpressed with them. They are wired to the brake light switch so look like a standard fitment. But.....the lights on the switch start flashing, indicating low voltage, as soon as I switch on the brake light or the inidicators or high beam, this at any revs, not just tickover. At lights and such like they will switch off after a minute or so, only to come back on when revs reach about 2,000 but the switch lights continue to flash until I switch the grips off for a few minutes. Neither are they as hot as Oxford grips. I plan to reinstall using a relay wired direct to battery that is tripped by the brake light live - probably a next Autumn job now

    Re: Honda Fitted Heated Grips

They may be working correctly but as I found out recently a lot of manufacturers (including Honda) have reduced their heat output to 40 degrees C as opposed to 55 degrees C - this makes a massive difference as the ones I had fitted only went to 40 degrees did not feel like they were on at all when moving.

I've been back to the shop who fitted mine and they upgraded them to the 55 degree ones and paid the difference.

Got them on mine and they're excellent. Much warmer than the oem BMW heated grips fitted to my old R1150GS.

    Re: Honda Fitted Heated Grips

hi.. I also went into my local Honda Dealer and asked about the heated hand grips
they told me something similar. "that they have build in protection for the battery"

when idling or if battery is dying they don't produce as much heat. but when riding along normally they should get warm...
there was that fact and the fact that they wanted well over £100 for them that i didn't go for them...
The TA i did my learning on had a set identical to these
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-MOTORCYCLE...QQcmdZViewItem

    and they were DAMMMM GOOD
when I get enough free money those are what i'm going for...

I bought some Oxford ones off Ebay for 35 quid, they are superb

BUT i wired them as per the instructions positive to battery and negative to battery, if i forget to switch them off when i have finished riding and it has happenned a few times i get a flat battery !!!

Any suggetions to stop this happenning? where else can i wire them into?

I know i will probably get beaten for this but you could wire them Via the rear light (not the brake light).. it may need a change of fuse.. but when you take the key out they will be off.. just hope the drain / power surges when switched off and on don't kill the bulb
