    Chain Lubrication

I had my bike fitted with a Scotoiler twin injector touring kit from new 5 months ago. It has now done 3600miles during which time the Scotoiler has never worked.

Including the time the Scotoiler was fitted and then the 500mile service the dealer has 'looked at it' twice but still no joy.

Basically I think it is time to look at an alternative and I quite like the idea of the Acumen Electronic unit. OK it may not have the range a touring Scotoiler has and the oil may be a bit more pricey but it doesn't really on vacuum and can presumably purge itself of air bubbles etc. So my question is has anyone out there had any experience of these units?

I have had scotoiler on all my bikes and I still do. I would give it another chance before dumping it. If you call the manufacuters they will help you in no time and send any parts you need to get it running again. They do have first class customer services. And once it's working you just need to top it up from time to time. I tried most of the alternatives and still prefer scottoiler.

Dave ,have you checked to make sure there is vacuum from the nipple (engine end) ? Best to start at the source ! Don't give up on it matey, that's 90 odd quid your about to abandon. After that check for kinks in the piping.Your garage probably just can't be ar*ed to put any effort into it.

I fitted the pro-oiler months ago, nothing but a pain, very sensitive to Electro magnetic interference and had to rewire god knows how many times then with the programming my mate was behind me all the way IOM and his bike got covered in oil, so I have to reprogramm again,

    I wish I had bought a Scotoiler

Have you pre loaded the supply pipe, I found that when the pipe goes dry the pump is not strong enough to fill the pipe. I use medical syring to prim the pipe to remove any air locks.

    Re: Chain Lubrication

The only problem I have with my Scottoiler is that it's the standard sized one instead of the touring one I had ordered. Until I get round to upgrading it I have to keep remembering to top up the reservoir. I find that when I've hooked up the bottle, twisted the selector round and then start squeezing, that the oil ends up coming out of the dispensing pipe so I need to use a tray to catch the excess.

to test your vacuum connection, look at the scottoiler as you start the bike. the oil level should take a little jump as the valve opens. thats all the vacuum does, opens the valve. there is no pumping or anything, it works by gravity. if there is even a small bubble in the delivery tube to the chain, it wont work so purge the tube through properly. i also use a syringe because the scottoil bottle is a bit awkward.

TWOTTER; you dont need to touch the meter to fill the scottoiler, are you putting it round to 'prime'? that just opens the system straight through

Have you checked the business end of the dual injector, ie the delivery pipes that should be just about touching the sprocket. They easily get gummed with grease and road crap and will stop working, or if they are touching the sprocket they will melt and block up. They just pull off, wipe the end and blow through them - it should be easy, if not they are blocked. clear with compressed air or a thin wire and push back on.

To see if its working at all turn up to prime and watch the ends of the tubes. You should get fast drips after 2-3 mins or start seeing oil run down the delivery pipe. If not either the delivery pipe is kinked or something is preventing oil leaving the reservoir - the valve or the vacuum.

A larger capacity reservoir is easily and very cheaply made from something like a tomato sauce bottle. Stash it somewhere on the bike not too much higher or lower than the reservoir and connect to the breather pipe with some tubing. I get 5,000 miles+ from my tomato sauce bottle.
