    Maintenance....

    Hi everyone.
Some advice please (don't laugh and point!)
I have been riding my 2002 baby vara now for the last few months.
I'm starting to think that I oughta do some maintenance.
I'm a newish rider after being on a scooter for a couple of years.
I do regularly check tyre pressures and oil level but that's about it.
I'd be really grateful for a checklist with time scales of what you guys do to keep your bikes in good order.
I mainly use the bike for commuting about 8 miles a day in total and it's always kept dry and pretty warm in the garage at night.
    Many thanks
    Ade

Keep an eye on the chain tension.
Check all the electrics are working.
Check under the gaiters and around the rear shock for leaks, if there are any then the seals will need replacing.
Check the steering head for movement, bearings wear.
Check brakes for wear and ensure they do not seize.
If you have a service manual with the bike then the 4000 mile checks should be done when you have a few moments to spare regardless of milage done to ensure the bike stays in tip top condition.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: Maintenance....

Hi there, no one will be laughing and pointing mate

I always do some basic checks before I get on the bike, am on the XL1000 but the idea is still the same.

    Tyres - pressure, wear, condition
Suspension - Front brake test and push the forks down, check for oil marks on the forks.
Lights - all working, clean and no chips
Brake fluid level and brake test front and back, check pads
    Engine oil level
    Chain - tension and lubrication
Let the engine warm up a bit before you take off
Area - are there any oil spots on the floor - if so from where and why.

Other than that I take her in for service when needed and you will know the sound and feel of your own engine.

    Safe riding
