    Power Socket

Am looking at getting a power socket and i know some of you lot have fitted one i am looking at this one on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Waterproof-12V...d=p4634.c0.m14 as it has a waterproof connection so i can mount it on the front of the bike. any suggestion as to wiring it in do i have to take the tank off or will i be able to run the wiring though with out.

    Thanks Derek

You might be able to squeeze it along, I don't know what the Varadero is like. I got one of these the other day..

    http://www.motorcyclepowersockets.com/

It's nice but I had to lift the back of the tank to get it to run along at the start, but then I found it's about six inches too short to easily reach the bars

I could just add another bit of wire but the point was that I wouldn't have to do any faffing about like that in the first place

it's easy to fit one on a varadero. No problems whatso ever i actually fitted 2. If you do a search of threads i've answer or started i've put photo's up of how and where i put them. Can't think what the threads were called though. If you can't find it i can take more photo's

    There's stuff in the Wiki:

http://www.xrv.org.uk/wiki/index.php...g_heated_grips is about the Varadero, partly about fitting a socket but mostly about heated grips.

http://www.xrv.org.uk/wiki/index.php...a_power_socket is about fitting a socket, but to an Africa Twin.

To run flex from the battery I used some stiff 8 guage wire, used it to hooked some string, and used the string to pull the power flex through.

    Re: Power Socket

hi derek, its really easy to fit a socket without taking anything off but the seat to get access to the battery. if you look on the wiki file "heated grips/BMW power socket" my tuppence worth is down the bottom with a pic.
ive now also got one on the dash, i thought i might aswell while i was wiring in the heated grips, just fitted it in parallel with the live to the grips switch, with its own fuse (see pic). to put one in here you do need to take out the plastic trim panel but it only takes two minutes.

    Re: Power Socket

got mine from vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk, a very well made socket with a sprung cap. i think its made for chassis fitment so it only has one terminal and then earths through the chassis, but all i did was solder a terminal onto the brass lock nut on the back.
