Autocom

Have just got an autocom unit in prep for the tld ride. It says in the destructions that it should be wired into the positive on the brake lights so it will shut down when you turn the bike off, it also says that when you disconnect the helmet lead the unit will switch off. So does anybody know if you can just wire it straight to the battery or do you need to put it on the loom. I don't mind tampering with the wire but am not Happy about splicing into the rear lights.

Any help much appreciated

Thanks Derek

Re: Autocom

Look very carefully at the rear brakelight wiring.
If it uses bullet connectors just make up a patch lead so that it goes between the main loom and the switch. then if and hen you change the bike the unit is easily removable.

Just spice into the correct wire....all my past bikes were done this way. afterall this is the way Autocom say it should be done. If your a little concerned get the soldering iron out and make a neat (safe) job of it.

Re: Autocom

What box have you got
My Pro AVI unit is the perfect fit for where the tool roll should sit and I've spliced into the fan power cable and earthed to the chassis neat tidy and no worries

Re: Autocom

I Got the active plus duo.
I have no probs with the wiring or soldering but just a bit concerned about getting the right wire to splice into. i think the idea about putting bullet connectors is a good one so will prob go with that but how can i tell which is the right wire to splice

Thanks Derek

No room, remove tool roll and the autocom is a snug fit in the recess and the tool roll has just enough room at the rear. if you go down the lane of Bluetooth dongle and music box for the autocom they will fit under the seat as well, with that you will still have room for a small tyre repair kit and a chewing gum.
everything else in topbox or tank bag
there are tiny nooks and crannies that could be used but nothing like a bulb assortment pack or gloves I have even thought about heating up the undertray and reforming it by forcing it down.

Re: Autocom

I've just fitted an active plus duo myself and i connected the main power feed into the rearlight feed(soldered) which comes on with the ignition.. on my 05 transalp....
everything seems to work great even the bluetooth dongle
the only problem i'm experiencing is the mp3 player keeps going quiet and loud without any activation of the microphone
i routed an extension lead for the mp3 player so i could plug in without having to lift the seat each time but i cable tied it to the passenger headset lead(for neatness) and i suspect that the mp3 input is inducing a small voltage into this lead and the system is mistaking it for an input from the mike lead and reducing the volume by 50% as per design
not sure yet, havn't had time to properly investigate. has anyone else encountered this???

Re: Autocom

Inline 3.5mm connectors on extension leads aren't always a great fit especially where vibration is concerned. Tape them up to stop them coming apart and give all the jack plugs a good clean with wire wool.

It would also be worth, as a test, turning the vox fully up just to ensure it's not false triggers.
