    Fuel Tap on Vara....

I took the tank off today for the first time..just running some wires for some heated grips as im going soft, and the fuel tap on the left hand side is what id expect ie,facing back with ON-OFF clearly visable easy to get at.The other side is facing forward!!!! so hand up under the fairing to get at it to turn it off....whats all that about!? The taps themselves are the same other than ,left side has the outlet to the side and the right hand sides outlet is at the rear of it....

Its been down on its side at some point, not at speed, just from standing by the looks, just a few scuffs on the poking out bits but i was wondering if the fuel taps are differant either side because its been replaced with a slightly differant one after being snapped off from falling over....as its scuffed right where the tap sits!
Perhaps its meant to be like that but if the fuel tap was snapped off from just being dropped....what a disater with a full tank, bad enough to drop it in the first place!!!

    Re: Fuel Tap on Vara....

    Hi JD
I dropped my Vara a couple of months back and broke the faring took it off to fix and while i was at it checked the air filter(tank off) turned both taps to what i thougnt was off NO CHANCE they both still ran in all positions so drained tank i,d gone that far might as wee carry on!! air filter ok!!! put it back together and after all the messing with the taps couldn,t remember original position there has to be a reserve 1 OFF 2 ON 3 RESERVE OR SO I THOUGHT anyway after about an hour smoking and thinking what the hell do i do now i turned them both straight down and HOPED the low fuel light comes on Haven,t been low enough yet but bikes runing OK!!!! WIIIIIERD OR WHAT!!!! so to answer your Q i haven,t got a clue sorry

Doh...mines an 05,and the fuel is on when the tap is up or down and off in the middle, pointing into the bike, there is no reserve, just the warning light.I found if its just slightly off of the horizontal when in the off position... it is still ON.

does that make sense...ive had a few ales!

    Re: Fuel Tap on Vara....

I have a carbie vara and the fuel taps both face backwards (towards your feet),ie easily accessible and ,if memory serves me correctly, the off position is with arrows facing the engine on both sides.
    Hope this helps

    Regards

The three settings are ON, OFF, PRIME. If I remember correctly the OFF position is horizontal, ON position is down and PRIME is up, although I'm not 100% sure so tread carefully.
Fitting heated grips is not going soft, its going sensible
What make did you get and what do you think of them?

There is no prime position because they're not vacuum taps.
Horizontal is off, vertical is on from memory.

I fitted Oxford grips...simply because my daughter got them for me for my birthday...which was nice.Dead easy to fit although the mounting bracket bolts that attach the control box to the clutch lever assembly are to big so had to do a bit of tinkering with the bracket to allow the origanals to fit!!
Only put them on yesterday so not tried them on the road but was suprised how quick they heat up and how warm they get....no more huddling around the downpipes yay.
