    Sat nav mounting point question..

..as you will know from my previous post I am getting a 2005 Vara next week so at the moment the bike is not local for me to look at. So a question. Is the fuel tank bolted to the frame at the steering head end by two bolts poss about 3-4 cms apart. The reason I ask is, when I get it I have an part off my old vtec like this... http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod493.html that I mount the satnav on, just need to know......lots n lots of questions to ask

Yes, the fuel tank trick should work on the Vara.

Yes, but the bolts are so low down you will still need an adaptor ( similar to this) to see it if you were planning those bolt holes as your mounting point

it should be long enough to clear the tank depends on how the garmin is mounted but the bars may foul, there is not a great deal of room

I use the mounting adapter I bought from "Telferizer" for my Sprint ST. I just replaced one of the handlebar mounting bolts with the adapter, which is basicly a longer bolt with a Ram mount rubber ball on top. Works well, the Zumo is easily visible and reachable without fouling any controls or clocks.

i agree, for such a big bike there isnt a lot of room on the varadero!

SNAPHAPPY; cheers for the endorsment, it works well but i would like it to be a bit shorter, and the short RAM arm is too short. yours looks mounted straight onto the migsel, how have you done it, it doesnt look like you're using the garmin bike mount?

I use the ram u bolt and the short link bar and clamp the whole setup as near the middle of the bars as possible. The ram bar lies horizontally and the gps holder sits ecactly central just above the flat bit in the middle of the bars between the ignition barrel and tank. Its neat, easy to see and out the way there.
