    Low fuel

Has any one expeerienced their dero dropping a cylinder when you get really low on fuel? Last w/end I did a big ride of over 800klm's in the day and miss judged my distance . Also don't trust the low fuel warning light.
The bike dropped off a cylinder and I might add still maintained a speed of 110klmh.I found a roadhouse and checked for fuel , it took just over 24ltr's. My question is ,has anyone else found this to happen?

No but have heard of erratic running when the fuel is getting low and only one of the two fuel taps is in the on position.

I thought the tank only held 24 or 25L so you must have been running on fumes.

Thanks for your reply Boris. Both taps were on and I have had it run like that when my fuel pump gave up a while back. I think I was running more on luck than fumes.I wondered if it was a Honda thing to get you a bit further down the road. If it is it certainly worked.

its supposed to have a 25ltr tank but ive actually put in more than 25ltrs in a filling before, and it was running fine beforehand. i guess honda leave a bit of a gap for safety. the fuel light should come on with 4ltrs reserve left.
you shouldn't let an injected bike run out because it can ruin the fuel pump(s)

Thanks davsato, My dero is a 2000 carby model and yes I have put more than the 25lrr's in. I find if you put it on the centre stand and rock it for a bit while filling you can squeeze a bit more in.

Me too. The injection models fuel pump is encased in a large can which surrounds the pump and acts as a resevoir or 'swirl pot' to ensure that the pump doesn't draw air (thing's enormous) but I am not so sure about the carb model pump which I am told is smaller.

I wonder if there are any fine gauze filters in the pump outlet or carb inlet banjo's which is not uncommon on outboards etc. one might be partially blocked causing preference to one carb. Are the pump outlets separate on the carb pump as they are on the FI or just T'd going to the carbs?

    Re: Low fuel

i have seen a mod on a BMW forum, the filler tube goes down into the tank quite a way, leaving a big airlock in the top of the tank.
some of them drill an airhole 1" down the tube to let air out as youre filling up and get another one or two litres in, depending on model and shape of tank.
have to think of a way to catch all the swarf from the drilling though, perhaps a rag stuffed inside and then use a magnet to clear up the bits before you pulled it out?
