It doesnt! Two bolts at the back and two bolts at the front. Remember to wait till it's nearly empty before lifting it off....It's heavy with fuel in it.
You can run the cable without removing the tank, but in my opinion it's neater and more secure if you lift the tank off.
Alternatively, you could take the power from the front brake light wiring which would avoid bothering the tank at all and also means the power will only come on with the ignition (if that's what you want).
I fed a few cables down past the tank with no great problems, if you must take it off then run it as low as possible without going dry both taps to closed the side panels can be loosened but you might as well take them off completely two bolts at the back and two at the front under the tank there are three pipes one of which stays connected to the tank and is disconnected lower down I am pretty sure the full instructions are in the manual but if you get any problems shout
Cheers Snap Ive had the tank off with some help from a mate and I'm sure that pipes 1 and 3 at the rear of the tank were not connected (assuming thy are in the order of 1-2-3 ) only the centre one was fitted as the other two were a bit oxidey where the pipes fit on !!!! ...anyway job done 12 volt installed (left hand inner fairing). I lost a little fuel in the proccess and the bike coughed and farted a few hundred yards up the road and then came back on song (weird!) Thanks for all the advise peeps ..."I'll be back!
