Question Motad Venoms on a '99 Vara?

    Hi all.

Collected my '99 Vara yesterday, along with all the extra's that came with it.

One of those extra's was a new, never been fitted set of Motad Venom end cans and link pipes.

Had a go at removing the original cans & pipes and found that I'd need to remove both foot peg hangers to allow me to manoeuvre the standard cans to get them off of the header pipes! To get the foot rest hanger off means removing the swing arm pivot as far as I can see!

Has anyone else fitted Venom cans to a Vara and had a similar problems?

As an aside, how reliable are the fuel pumps on the carb'd Vara's? Noticed that it's the same style as the @, only smaller. Checked the points over on mine this afternoon, and once I'd put all the bits of the bike back together and put fuel in the tank, the pump wasn't working - bike stuttered after starting then coughed and died. Un-capped the fuel pump and cranked the starter - no movement of the points - slight tap with BIG screwdriver - points start sparking & pump starts working!

Your experiences with these machines gratefully received.

    Steve T

I haven't heard of problems to the extent of the @T funnily enough, but I only had mine a year so hardly long enough for problems to show up.

As for the pipes, I've never been rich enough to buy after market pipes for a Vara! Not sure of the answer Steve, except that's what the grinder and welder was made for!

I fitted my luggage yesterday then the Scottoiler today, nightmare amount of work to get a vacuum pipe! I also drilled holes in my brand new Honda topbox! Needed to fit my luggage rack for carrying my tent! That's the Vara ready to tour now, quite chuffed really!

Hope you get those pipes sorted out, I might buy for mine, if they're not a nightmare to fit!

On my VA4 you definitely don't need to remove the footrest hangers to remove the up-pipes and silencers. Some gentle but repeated twisting should see the units come straight out.

    Hi DW.

Didn't seem to be much room to "wiggle" the exhaust and it's pipe to get it free from the header pipe. These cans have never been off the bike (it's a '99 model), so some more persuassion may be called for to get them to move.
    Thanks for the info.

I have vague memories of lowering each silencer slightly and twisting them inwards (towards the bike). Worth a go.

just to confirm - i have a 99 Vara and have had no probs with the fuel pump (right, thats the kiss of death for the pump to go on the way home!)

the cans will come off without removing all of the footpeg hangers!

    wiggle 'em . . . lots!

Hi Z and thanks for the feed back.
I think we own the same coloured machines, going by your sig.

As for the pump, I'm sure it will be fine

The exhausts will get a good "wiggling" in a couple of weeks - I'll let you know how I get on.

    TTFN,
