Anyone use a Paddock Stand?

............as title says for rear wheel, chain, and rear brake fettling. Rather than pay out for a mainstand at £100+. I am off to the Stafford show in a couple of weeks and thought I might find a bargain to be had. Is putting a Vara 1000 on a paddock stand a one man job?

Re: Anyone use a Paddock Stand?

I used to manage if with the Tiger on my own prior to fitting center stand, although easier with a second person

Re: Anyone use a Paddock Stand?

I had exactly the same thoughts and....

the cheap stands looked far too flimsy so I got one for €50 marked up as Profi BikeStand

Thankfully Louis took it back and gave me a refund so I ordered the centre stand from SW Motech
If you need a paddock stand you will need a good one which are about the same price as a centre stand

Re: Anyone use a Paddock Stand?

get a good one like the pic above, those cheap single tube ones are made of cheese, even my XT600 fell off one of those and the varadero is a much heavier bike.
theres a good reason why so many of us have the centre stand!

Re: Anyone use a Paddock Stand?

i have a red one - i think it's a motrax!?

it is a one man job to put it on the stand but as the "arms" are spring loaded it was a pain, i remedied this by marking where they extended to and then taking them apart, i slid a piece of piping over the arm that holds the cup - this piece was long enough to keep the arms in the right place so now it is a no fiddle job to get the bike onto the stand!

i'll post a pic when i get half a mo!

Re: Anyone use a Paddock Stand?

believe us..... get a centre stand for the 60 or 70 quid its well worth it. Not least because it really is a one-man job to put it on and its always with you. You won't regret it.

I was just thinking that. A paddock stand is no use to man nor beast if the bike has a problem out on the road.

oops I meant for the 60 or 70 quid extra over the price you will pay for a paddock stand - Centre stand £110 ish : Paddock stand £40ish (more probably for one strong enough to take the Vara.

David Silver spares - genuine Honda £119.
