    2001 paint job

hi, has anyone painted a 2001 varadero XL1000 Tank to match fairing? I am thinking of changing the colour of my Black one to Blue, painting the tank and front mudguard the same colour. The Decals are expensive at £35 + vat each side (from Honda). does anyone know any cheap decal supplier? Regards Geoff

The decals can be photographed and reproduced by any half decent digital sign maker - the guys who letter vans and shop fronts, and they'll be much cheaper than the originals. Last week I watched an R6 having the stickers applied by one of these guys after it had been resprayed. You couldn't tell they weren't original.

Mind you, the Varadero sticker's the one thing I wouldn't replace if I painted the bike, I think they're really nasty, garish and ugly and detract from the overall appearance of the bike. But somebody must like them!

Cheers, I may look at replacing the Decals with the 3D type on newer models. I would still like to know if anyone has painted the tank the same colour as the bike and if it looked OK or more of a LUMP.

    Hi Hunter,

you might want to give Pxlpig a shout. He's a member of this forum that just happens to run a paint spraying business -

His own we-site can be found here - Welcome to Paint Pig!

I know that his is based in Kent, but he may well be able to give you some advice on what you propose to do. Worth a phone call or an email at least.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?
