I am about to set my autocom up on the bike but was wondering where you run the phone lead to, do you leave it loose or do you put the phone under the seat. how do you keep the headset lead dry while and not in use ?
Thanks Derek![]()

It takes a man to understand how a woman can go into a hundred shops and then buy the first thing she saw in the first shop then return it the next day

Snaphappy rides a Varadero & uses an autocom system, his lead justs sticks out of the front of his seat. He is out taking a photo at the mo but will be back later tonight, for a more in depth answer…over to you Nick.

In fact I’m being an idiot (no change there then) his Phone is connected via a bluetooth dongle & is also connected into his navi……… somehow. It’s his headset lead that sticks out of the front of his seat.
I have the autocom blue tooth dongle. The Zumo is blue toothed to the Autocom and phone blue toothed to the Zumo. I use a wired lead for music input from the Zumo to the Autocom.
As far as the connecting leads are concerned when not in use I cut a finger off my Marigolds and cover the end of the DIN sockets. This works very well and has done for years
The rear comes out of the side panel and rests at the back under the seat next to the rear rack. The front lead comes out of the front of the side panel and I feed it through the hole in the ATs frame and out the other side near the cross on the Y section and it rests in there when not in use.

when I had my autocomm on my TA for my lead I just let the DIN plug poke out from the saddle by the tank. It was OK whether I used it or not and the weather didn't seem to affect it - I thougt they were all wetaher proffed anyway. For the pillion's lead I wrapped a piece of sticky back velcro round the DIN plug and stuck a small piece of the opposite piece of velcro discretely on the side panel. This held the lead securely enough as well as being accessible without having to lift the seat.
I gave up with the autocomm as I couldn't really get the speakers comfortable in my helmet, my wife's helmet/microphone combo needed a higher level of supression of the wind noise that made talking a horrible clipped affair and most of all I decided listening to music/answering phone were incompatible activities with riding a bike. I might refit it one day just for the pillion/rider conversation as I understand there are kits that cut down wind noise in the mike's considerably.

I have to ask, why would you want to use a phone when you're on the bike![]()

With regards to music and the phone: if I am alone on the bike I actually listen to the music on my phone, the added bonus is, if someone rings me, the music instantly stops & I know it’s a phonecall coming in. The down side is when Mrs Pan is on the back she can’t hear the music as it generates from the phone, we then have use a mp3 player, then I just get ear ache about my choice of music & don't always here the phone ring.
In my own personal case, the phone is what brings the pennies in, so even when I’m on my bike I need to be contactable.
