Well, the Trailwings my VA9 Vara came with have been sound for grip both wet and dry. My only problem with them was the lifespan, 3000 miles and down to a couple of mm.
Turfed them off today, now running Anakees, seem to be scrubbing in ok but seem a bit wobbly? I'll report back after they're scrubbed in but three sets on my Tiger and found them to be fine.

    Hi AfricaJim

I share your views on the Trailwings but I thought I was being hard done to getting 'only' 4500 out of the front!

Have now got the Pilot Roads fitted and it feels frightenly different (keeps wanting to drop into corners!) but I wont get the chance to fully test them until I ride down to the Grossglockner in August.

Likewise i'll let the group know how I get on with them.

Yeah, Pilot Roads turn in more quickly than most. You'll get used to it though. And when you subsequently try something else you'll wonder why they turn in so slowly!!

If you have no intentions of any off road are there other options available

I'm talking here about the dual compound tyres available to sports bikes

If you can get Michelin Pilots for the bike I'm sure Bridgestone might have something available in similar sizes and they have a good reputation for mileage and outside grip on their dual compound tyres - hard in the middle and softer on the edges

Not Bridgestone biased but generally look in the direction of those types of tyre

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

I run Tourances on my AT, so far so good.
However, they are not too good on the wet rough stuff but are very good on the smooth stuff.
But I would probably look for some chunkier tyres next time round though.
