I put a Varta gel type in my bike in September had no problems. Just poor the water in leave the tp unsealed for 45 mins for the reaction to take place to turn it to a gel then seal the top. If you don't leave them long enough for the full reacton time they don't hold charge properlyso i was told at the battery store

    Re: Piggin battery

Sounds like you have a 'sealed calcium acid' battery. . . . when the acid is put in the battery it re-acts with the 'stuff' inside to go a bit like gel, then the sealing strip is fitted.
A 'Gel' battery has no sealing strip so can only be opened by disassembling the case, i.e. breaking it.
But whatever you call it, . . . it sound's like it's finished.
Surprised you do not have halfords in france, i know they have them in holland.

Well I manage to get back twice a year or there abouts, it's Ayrshire if I am being strictly accurate. Believe it or not there is a chippy in Singapore that does deep fried Mars Bars, I confess I have not sought it out to try it but I have just had a report that one of the deli's has a stock of Irn Bru in, so that's tomorrows mission

It's a brave man that tries to bump start the Vara wonder if that's on you tube.

It's just about standard practice out here to install a volt meter. I put one in my tacho and tapped from the regulated supply in the binnacle. It normally reads 0.6 > 0.8 V below the battery voltage, so although that's not an absolute reading it give me a trend. It normally runs between 12.8 > 13.1 which would be 13.4 > 13.9 extreme range at the battery which is what I would consider a healthy output. Battery voltage if I leve her from one weekend to the next will be down to just over 12 and she spins and starts first kick at that. If I stall her the voltage goes low enough for the volatile memory for trip readings to be lost, I am led to believe the thresh hold voltage for that is around 9V.

Save up until you're in the U.K. then get a new one.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    "GULP"
At the current exchange rate that is about £110
If it seems to be holding at the moment I would chance it.
