xl125v 06 Idle Speed

Manual says 1500rpm give or take 100. Mine needs 1900 to be happy or 2100 to feel nippy. MPG is fine - should I be concerned?

You may need the carbs balanced.

Re: xl125v 06 Idle Speed

Sounds expensive..... It will also need a new chain soon (already at the far end of the red indicator), so depending how tomorrow's second test goes it may be time for a trade in or up...

Thanks.

Carb balancing is easy.
I have a set of gauges ( On loan to WHEALIE ) the hardest thing is getting a fuel feed to run the engine with tank removed.

Re: xl125v 06 Idle Speed

Thanks, four minors though, tsk.

Two for rear observation. I left a roundabout and checked left (and right) but examiner thought I should just check right.

Apparently athat left check is a matter of debate in the teaching world. From experience I can say hand on heart I would be dead now if I hadn't learned to check for the twunt undertaking at the roundabout exit - but I'm prepared to accept he just didn't see that I was ALSO doing lifesavers over my right.

Two for not indicating right at a right turn roundabout - which I don't understand as I'm religious about these. Suspicion is that these were fakies but just stuck in to keep me on my toes. But hey it was a test so I could have just freaked it.

Thanks for the congrats though.

Re: xl125v 06 Idle Speed

NB - Topped up the oil today - probably stuck in a bit more than recommended, as I added it when the engine was cold (warm day though) but it now idles at 1500 and sounds much smoother....

Will still do some carb balancing anyway but with less urgency.

Weird that, the manual says to check oil when lukewarm - but it seems that checking it on a warm day leads to a smoother engine (more oil goes in I guess)..... or is it about to go bang....?!?!?
