How long is a piece of string?!

I know its probably like asking how long is a piece of string but,.........
I bought some Oxford Heated Grips off Ebay to fit on my 03 Varadero. They were advertised as "never used", and I don't think they have.

I thought I would test them before fitting to make sure they work, and hooked them up to a 12v recreational battery I have in the garage.

The controller is a push in for on then turn the dial to adjust the temperature. At half power, after 10 minutes they were too hot to hold without gloves. So, just how hot should they get? Is this normal, or is the regulator faulty?

    All comments gratefully received.

When they are on the bars, the bars conduct heat away from the grips so they won't get as hot as that. Also, I don't know what the weather's been like where you are today, but it's been hot and humid here. Chances are it'll be bloomin cold when you're using them and your freezing hands and wind chill will also cool them down very effectively.

These grips do get nice and toasty

Thanks for reply. How about wiring them in? I intend wiring them to the black / blue feed from the fuse box which I'm told is the live feed to the cooling fan. I'll earth them somewhere to the frame. Any thoughts?

I fitted mine with a relay and wired direct feed off the battery.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

The feed to the fan. That's what I used for my grips. I wired the return back to the battery as opposed to the frame though.
