I know. The worst thing was the amount of time i spent trying to get it start - wiggling wires at the kill switch and squirting WD40 into it, then thinking about it all evening and popping out every 10 mins to check things as they came into my head..... the battery, what was the charger doing, then check the Fi light really was going out, then checking the HISS light was going out. Not once did I notice the absence of the neutral light, 'til "bingo" I remembered puttng it in gear to lube the chain. I was blushing and there was no one there
2001 Transalp XLV650. Faithful old friend still chugging away nearly 100,00miles
2007 Varadero XLV1000. Now you're torquing but sadly gone to another forum member. One of the best bikes - period.

I did that on my Transalp, I needed to move the bike up a ramp and decided to use the motor to assist. I totally forgot about the sidestand and spent ages trying to figure out what was wrong.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Never mind Austin, at least a happy ending mate!

As already said, we've all had experiences of this sort, mine was a major event as you would expect!
Departing the ferry from Newcastle to Ijmiuden we had headed down to the vehicle bays, untied the bike and time to drive off the ferry, I was about third in the queue, bike will not start! No power! Well, they made me push my 955i Tiger off the boat on to the harbour, I was gutted! Great start to my tour of Europe, no Stella Alpina for me this year! Enough to make you cry!
Ok, why would the bike not wind over? Side stand switch? No, Clutch switch? (Triumph will not wind over without pulling in the clutch) No! Ok, let's go over this again, missing nothing, turn on ignition, check for neutral, there's no neutral light? Why? Dunno, pull in the clutch any way, still no wind over,,,,,, try the kill switch,,,,, DOH! When strapping the bike to the deck the strap had been over the switch and turned it off! It's the simple things isn't it? Ha ha!
