Fuel pump?

Hi all, started the bike up today for its first run in ages, and all was ok,after a couple of minutes warming up, it stopped and now will not start unless its on full choke and then on one cylinder. I'm pretty certain its the fuel pump as its now done 23k and that over the last few miles it has stuttered on acceleration.
Has anyone fitted the Facet 40105 pump to their carbie vara and if so has there been any problems??
Thanks for any replies
Regards
Mike

Re: Fuel pump?

It has been done on a Vara - search the forum, specifically the Varadero area, for a thread that was started some time last year, I think.

Re: Fuel pump?

Hi Funny
Yep fitted the facet pump about 12k klm ago and no problems in running !!! hardest bit is trying to get a square peg in a round hole yep the old pump is round and held in place with a round rubber sleve and the facets square nothing a bit of silicone spray and a bit of grunt can,t cure

Re: Fuel pump?

Don't personally have a lot of technical knowhow. But when I tried to start my 99 carbodero after standing for more than 8 weeks it wouldn't start, despite the battery having enough power to turn it over normally.
Took it to workshop and after having carbs thoroughly cleaned it fired up and ran beautifully.
Unleaded apparently leaves gunge anywhere its left standing for any period of time. How long was yours standing? This might be a cheaper solution than new fuel pump. My bike is still on its original pump and has 95000 miles on it!

Re: Fuel pump?

Here is the thread I was on about - the guy does a great job of fitting the pump without using the rubber mounting that can cause so much grief

Can't see how it could be a fuel pump if it will run on 1 cylinder. If it runs in 1 cylinder then the pump is pumping fuel to that carb. Mines done over 30k with no fueling issues infact never heard of a pump issue on the varadero. Have you tried draining the carbs out and using fresh fuel

Re: Fuel pump?

Hi again all, right here we go ,disconnected the fuel feeds from the pump and fitted a 10 mm dia tube between them, turned on fuel ,hit the starter and away she went as sweet as a nut.So now minding the red hot exhaust,I took off the cover of the pump and the points inside are totally mullered ,inside of the cap it is white with spark flash residue so the pump is the problem.

I now find that wemoto supply replacement points for the honda pump(read mitsubishi) for a little over 20 quid ,so the question is now do I fit new points and hope it last's or do I fit a pacet pump and forget about it?.

Comments please

Regards
Mike

Re: Fuel pump?

£20+ for replacement points (that will erode again) as against less than £40 for a solid state fuel pump.

I know where my money would be going.

Just my ramblings,

Steve T

I agree go for the better option.
