Sat Nav Cable help please guys!!

Just need to run my sat nav cable from the battery to the handlebars or the other way round if you like..

On my old aprilia touno I just un-done two bolts lifted the tank and ran the cable down to the battery there about's..

Looking at the vara it seems like the fairing covers part of the tank so it might be a bit more of a job..

So guy's...any one fitted a cable from A to B and any advice..Many thanks !

Re: Sat Nav Cable help please guys!!

Follow the manual's instructions on raising the rear of the tank a tad; there's a something to prop the tank up under the seat. They pass a long stiff wire from the front of the tank alongside the frame rails and out the back, hook your cable and pull it through.

Re: Sat Nav Cable help please guys!!

I initially ran my cable down the left side, (the tank was full and I was in a rush)
I used a rigid piece of cable to find a way through, then taped the satnav cable to that and pulled it through.
Remove the top black plastic LHS cover and you can see easier, tape up or cable tie it secure

Re: Sat Nav Cable help please guys!!

Thanks for the help guy's ..Looks reasonably straight forward..

Just wondered if you've got the sat nav mounted central which is what I will be doing hopefully...

I got a zumo 550 and im pretty sure I will need to contact Ram mounting system to find a central mount for the cradle..

Re: Sat Nav Cable help please guys!!

dont bother!
wire in an accessory socket instead, and run the gps from that. couple of pics of my setup (quest and zumo)

heated_grip_switch_socket - Honda Trail Bike Forums

then you can run other stuff too

Not a bad idea davsato...many thanks...

Doing my best to work out how you have the sat nav mounted...I can see the cradle ball socket fits onto the clamp which I have but can you tell me what piece I would need to order that fits onto the handle bar to clamp the other end of the clamp?.....God that sounds confusing!..Hope you no what im trying to say??

Re: Sat Nav Cable help please guys!!

for the quest i made this
RAM ball mount - Honda Trail Bike Forums
because i hate the RAM U-bolt handlebar mount

for the zumo this
migsel ripoff 2 - Honda Trail Bike Forums

migsel ripoff 1 - Honda Trail Bike Forums
because the migsel mount puts the zumo in the perfect place but is a ridiculous price for a bit of bent tin

they are cutoff RAM balls on diy mounts. i dont want to sound like a smug git, these were easy for me to knock up but obviously not everyone makes carbon fibre bits for helicopters.
you'd be surprised what you can achieve with some metal and a drill and some patience though.
have a look at RAM mounts.
RAM Mounts and Accessories - Great Savings on Sat Nav Mounts, Memory, Chargers, Cables, Holders, Cases and More.
if you want to pay RAM prices they do pretty much anything you can think of, i just wanted the balls so i got the clutch lever mount with 2x1" balls and cut one of them off. if you got a zumo 550 it comes with a RAM mount+ handlebar mount?

This is what i did with mine

wired in a relay switched by ignition into a power socket...

the ralay is switched from the odometer power feed

the cable is then on the handlebar bridge permanently

in the end i did take the power socket out and just wired the cable to the relay to cut down on connections

but you could just run the cable down the dashboard subframe down to the main chasis along the chasis and into the battery box
