If I could make them I would but my ally welding skills are non existent so I was hoping to have some made or adapt some existing product.

I've pretty much made up my mind not to go down the non standard racks for the reasons in the above post.

A sub rack that say bolts to the Honda rack which then allows standard fit alloy boxes may be a possibility but as I said for 90% of the time the Honda boxes are fine and I don't want to loose them
These boxes are what i have and the photo's show there mounting points and locks if you want photo's of the clamps on the racks and the racks themselves i cant do it until saturaday moring as i've dropped the bike to dealer tonight so they can do the 32k service on thursday and friday..

The one thing i will say for the meatl frames for these boxes and other metal boxes is that when the luggage is removed the frames act as crash bars to protect the rear of the bike. The kit i have has another frame that goes around the back of the biketo give extra rigidity between both the frames

If you don't like the hoops with no panniers try the H&B QD pannier frames. That's what I have - fit/remove in seconds with 6 quick lock 8mm :Allen bolts and have so far been as strong as perma fit pannier frames. I will have a look for a link shortly.

Yes, but you take them off when you haven't got panniers attached. 30 second job. Even less hideous then than the Honda ones.

Ahh I hadn't realised that. Not so ugly then.

Unfortunately the ones for the 03-06 bike seems to leave a couple of really ugly and visible brackets in place when you remove the removable bit

However I still like to be able to use the Honda boxes most of the time so it would be useful if the Honda racks could form the basis of any solution.

True about the brackets but they really are unobtrusive. I think you will Be having to throw some serious money to get your ideal solution but when you do it will be a very good set up. Good luck.

Re: Alloy boxes on a Varadero

The fundamental problem is that the Honda boxes and racks are shaped to go around the silencers and the alloy boxes aren't. I imagine if you tried to fit both Honda and "flat hoop" brackets they'd interfere with each other or the boxes. Can you create an adaptor that fits the Honda brackets and presents a flat hoop for the alloy boxes? Maybe buy some crash damaged boxes from eBay and carve them up?

I believe the QDs don't fit the VA5. Removing the older H&B brackets is a pain as you have to undo the luggage rack. You can remove just the hoops but that leaves some obtrusive metal work at the back.
