Ridden both the Strom and the Vara .The Honda is far the superior bike in both build quality and rideability .I am looking for a good Vara so have been doing my homework have a TA650 at the moment which is a brilliant bike but if your looking for a mile muncher the Vara just does it with ease.

Picking up my Varadero on Saturday. I've got a nice run from Aberdeen to North Berwick. After 60,000 miles on 600cc Transalps it'll be interesting to compare them. I looked at the V-strom 650 but was worried about long-term ownership. I don't think they're as robust as Hondas although the 650 was fun.

Believe me, and I speak as a fan of the Transalp... You are going to enjoy the bike when you pick it up, it'll feel like starship enterprise Warp 9....

I went from an AT to a Vara and my opinion is that the varadero is just in a different league. It eats miles of motorway for breakfast, has hips of smoothly delivered power to play around with and the confort is just superb. The bad things I have noticed.... and they are very few ...are that it is top heavy and specially manovering slowly takes some getting used to....almost dropped it twice the very first week.... The linked breaks also are a novelty and it took me ssome time to familiarize myself with that too and the fuel connsumption.....well won't comment on that!

To be fair to the AT I have to say that once you leave tarmac and use the AT in her natural environment she is just a different beast....imho....both tho Hondas and very very good quaity machines. Had a test ride on a strom 1000 but my heart did not fall for it....

Good luck and look forward to hearing your comments and impressions...

I have seen the Vstrom and the Varadero, My choice would be the Varadero.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
