OK, here we go !
I went out early evening yesterday around Leeds, country roads to 70mph and motorways to 90mph, it was sunny and dry but a quite blustery as well.
i am trying desperately to not have my opinion coloured by the fact I paid 60 notes for the adjuster.. I am really pleased.
The weird thing I found it that there is a little turbulence at very slow speeds (I suppose as the air circulates under and around)...but as you get faster it doesn't increase and feels the same at 40mph as it does at 90mph.
l am unable to explain the aerodynamics behind why it appears to work, what I can say is that my mate I went touring with in Scotland recently has a BMW1200RT with electric adjustable screen and when he has it high and angled the effect is exactly the same, there is a big gap between the bottom of the screen and headlights.
If i had replaced my screen for a touring screen at £100 and got this result I would have been eulogising about what a great decision I had made to swap...therefore I am really happy with the result I have.
Do I think £60 is expensive for the actual hardware...yep, a little steep I feel. However, I can live with that for the reason described in the paragraph above.
In conclusion..it arrived quickly, the You Tube vid made a fiddly job for cack-handed me pretty simple, I think the screen being away and higher than it should be looks really good (makes my vara look even more beefy adventure bike styley) and I am satisfied with the veracity of the claim of noise/turbulence being greatly reduced.
There you go...
Thanks
Thanks bluemoon..
When the spare cash is available I shall be buying one for sure.
I can usually travel at about 50/60 now with the visor flipped up in reasonable comfort but with the aid of the screen adjuster I no it makes a big difference as Ive had bikes with bigger/adjustable screens in the past...
Thanks for the report....![]()
OK , I know a little about how air currents work and how to bend air,now lets throw the cat among the pigeons and tell you why you get that buffeting at speed when there is a cross wind of ANY strength.
For all that air the screen pushes out of the way it causes a void of air behind the screen a vacuum of a sort, when there is no cross wind a certain amount of air will fill the void to a degree, as you go faster the air presure builds up in front and the vacuum behind the screen increases dramatically.
If you treat water as a fluid ''which most tecs do'' you will get the same response, if you put a saucer into water and let it sink it will go from side to side ''turbulance'' much like the air is doing going around the screen but much slower.
The trick is to combat the vacuum by finding a way to fill that vacuum, you Will stop the buffeting but will notice an amount of moving air behind the screen.
Now try this it,s very very cheap and gets very very good results.
Get yourself some perspex or plastic or even aliminuim with a thickness of 8 to 10mm and make four spacers 25mm square will do,drill 5.5 to 6mm holes and fit them behind the screen ''up the screws to M5x40''.
The idea behind this is to let certain amount of forced air from the presure zone in front to travel behind the screen and relieve the vacuum and stop the turbulance.''you can change the thickness to suit''
Doing this simple thing will reduce drag ,increase speed and save on fuel,,,,,,,,guaranteed ,try it what have you got to lose?
I must say sorry to the makers of screen gadgets who make their living form other peoples lack of air/fluids dianamics knowledge.

Mmmm, the MRA screen comes with two holes in it, i suppose this is to allow some air to flow behind the screen.
