Get a valve check done and the carbs balanced at least then you have a good start point. I would then put new plugs in it take it and take it for a blast for 20 mins or so come home allow to cool down then check the plug to see what it tells you. The last couple of months i've only put a couple of tank fulls of juice in mine and noticed my reserve light coming on earlier than it normally does (185 miles normallyish) last tank ful was 165 at moment i'm just over 170miles on this tankful and the light hasn't come on yet, local dealer has said we have have some **** fuel delivered in our area so that may be my issue as several customers have complained about the same sort of thing. I actually asked him if he richened my bike up when he did my 32k service he said no and i have done many miles on it since that service. I will just watch it over the next few months

    Re: running rich

I suspect that the Vara can suffer the same problem as the other Honda V-twins in that the chokes can get "sticky". I know it's a pain, but seeing as you'll have the tank off to check the rear plug, pop out the chokes and exercise the choke lever to see if they both move as they should. Also check their physical condition - ie are the plungers corroded? Do the springs look in good nick?

Hope it's something simple and easily fixed

    Welcome mate
they say two wheels are better than one I'm sure Whealie will be along to say hello.
Whats your mileage and service history
Valves, Choke and carb balance seem to be the obvious get them checked and reset then another quick run to Italy to check the consumption and take the photos you have failed to post with your Ride Report

    Welcome to the forum.
Do not forget the photos of your bike, hiding over here will not help you escape .

I would suspect the bike needs a good service, plugs air filter and valves for starters, then check the carb balance.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: running rich

Steve T beat me to it.

It'll be the choke(s) sticking, check the cable is free & remove/check the springs & plungers where they enter the carbs.

Plugs/valves/carb balance etc will not make the bike run rich, just run badly.
