    Varadero Electrical problems

Hi - I am hope for some advice on my 2004 Varadero. I am new to the forum so I hope I do everything right!. I have a 2004 Vara and some time back, I hit a pothole and imediately bike started missing and runnng on one cylinder. I by chance found that one of the wires to the Ignition Control Module under the seat broke inside its insulation - the wire had a sharp bend from the loom to the ICM and with vibration, it must have broke in the insulation. I repaired it, but ever since then, the bike hesitates, or misses just for a bit between 2 and 3000rpm when accelerating. At higher revs, no problem at all.
Does anyone else have a similar problem or advice on where to start looking? Perhaps it is not an electrical problem but some other problem?

I would suspect another broken wire in or around the same place as before.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Thanks for the comments - I do have a wiring diagram, and have checked all wires leading to the ICM. Also friend suggested running engine at night and look for any electric spark - still could not find anything. Problem only happens when riding and not when reving... Am now starting to suspect something else - not sure what though!

its possible your weight on the bike moves the wires or something?

It could be a loose or broken wire that is only affected by the vibration of the bike in motion.

Had similar on a previous Honda I had - ended up with replacing the black box and it curred it. Water had tracked up a crack in the insulation and what appeared as a broken cable ended in a slighly bigger bill !

Do any electrical parts sit under the seat like on the early Transalps and AT's which could have got damaged accidentally?

    Re: Varadero Electrical problems

Stumpyfingers - The only part that I know of is the ICM. To tell the truth, when I bought the bike, it was lying loose and I then re-secured it into its holder - so it could be that which is faulty.
Davsato - that is the kind comment my wife would make, but to answer you, no, the wires are tucked well under the side of the seat. Iainnic, I will follow your comment to check the black box carfully this weekend hope its not damaged. Many thanks to all - Enjoy weekend!
