that's what it says in the logbook
The first run of carbed bikes built in Japan are SD01. the minor change in style after 2007 is the Mk3 but I believe is still marked as SD02

doh! yes, ive cocked that up, havent i.
carbed bikes are SD01s, with codes VX, VY etc
Fi bikes are SD02s, starting at 2003 with V/VA3 codes etc
SD03s new backend, belly pan, etc from 2008 VA8>

sorry about that!
a screen will either be before or after a V/VA3 model, or put simply either carbed or Fi

i guess it would be on the V5? or chassis plate. cant say ive ever checked, but i mustve seen it somewhere because i know mines a VA6. its not written in the handbook because my handbook is for a VA8, the newer ones with the revised rear end and fuel computer. which mine isnt. perhaps i read it in the haynes manual, they do a chapter on model history these days.
and to confuse things further, there are small differences between years too, two other SD02's at work both have slight changes to mine, placement of clamps and p-clips, changed fasteners, stuff like that.

Check your VIN plate, it will have three letters followed by the V03- V08 which is the model
