Things to look out for on a second hand
General condition, I've seen reports of bad maintained bikes with sized front left caliper, the caliper is mounted on a swivel that actuates the rear brake. If it siezes they can snap.
The exhausts have a graphite seal, they are only pennies to replace but can be pain and if your not too good with spanners expensive with labour charges. I they are too tight they smash too loose and they fall apart.
The 2003> are fuel injected with 6th gear and better fuel economy. mayby build quality the SD02 2003> were made in Spain the mark 1 are Japenese made. Mines a 2003 parked in a garage and with a bit of elbow grease comes up like new, nothing rusting or tarnished.
It's been said that "nothing else out there floats my boat" I'm the same boat and have no reason to contemplate changing. no good for green laning, no good for throwing up Scottish tracks, but riding all day two up with luggage is what they do best, unloaded on your own they can frighten many a power-ranger on the twisty bits.

Try one, it might float your boat, if your at the asking stage your almost hooked

I recently swapped with a mmte on a 04 GS1200... Mines a 01 vara.... if you consider the difference just in value alone the Vara makes a lot of sense.

Love mine, mainly ride on my own on bumpy Irish roads and it's a real blast...

Right the one i'm looking at is 1999 , one question i have is the speedo is in MPH but trip and odo in KMH is this normal ?????????

no idea for such an early one, if its digital you might be able to change it

Could be an import. Mine is a 98 - one of the first ones that went in to Germany. Chap from my area went out to work there and bought it and brought it back - mine is still in KMH all round but it is possible to have the speedo changed.

I think you're misreading the info on the display. KMH over the odo/trip box relates to the inner ring of numbers around the speedo - speed in kph.

This was my 99er about 500 miles ago. I can assure you the odo/trip is in miles. Does yours look the same?

I too have been looking. Saw one advertised with only one key. Is it expensive to get another key cut and have it programmed to the HISS?

there is no HISS on the carb varadero, not sure about later models......
